Please could I bring the below link to your attention? Its not a new scheme but I don’t think many people know about it.

A massive part of my role is to reduce Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and the Safety at Night Charter.

I am encouraging people to log places and locations where they have felt unsafe so that we can deal with them.

The below link is for a piece that went live on the force website yesterday. If there is any way this could be put in your publications I would be eternally grateful.

If you would like any further information then please contact me via email and I will respond asap.

Kind regards,

Lisa

A Unique Concert for Wiltshire
03 January 2024

A Unique Concert for Wiltshire will be held at the historic Salisbury Cathedral on Thursday 8 February 2024 to raise vital funds for key Wiltshire charities.

The event will see award-winning concert pianist Rupert Egerton-Smith as special guest artist, in performance with The Band of The Grenadier Guards and The Band and Bugles of The Rifles.

The Band of The Grenadier Guards represent the most senior infantry regiment of the British Army, while the Band and Bugles of The Rifles represent the largest sole rifle regiment in the British Army.

This event not only marks one of the rare occasions that the two Bands will perform together in a concert, but it is also Egerton-Smith’s debut performance alongside them, just prior to the start of his East Coast recital tour of the United States of America.

The concert itself will take the audience on an exciting and unique musical journey; celebrating the rich histories of the two regiments, as well as paying homage to the local Wiltshire area.

All profits from this wonderful evening will go towards supporting the work of The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Youth Action Wiltshire, along with the military charities, all of whom are honoured to share a close association with Her Majesty The Queen.

Vacancy for a Parish Councillor
06 October 2023

Vacancy for a Parish Councillor

As you may be aware, Tockenham Parish Council currently has a vacancy for a Councillor. Is this a role that could be of interest to you? It is not a particularly onerous role - you need to attend bi-monthly meetings (there can be the occasional extra-ordinary meeting too) and ideally you should be prepared to attend meetings aimed at all parishes within our Area Board from time to time. We would also like you to take on a "responsibility" within the council as part of your task - as we are very much an active council. No previous experience is necessary, as training will be available, but you obviously need to have a strong sense of community spirit - and act always in the best interest of our Parish. You must also be prepared to take difficult decisions on occasion!
If you would like to be considered for this position, in the first instance, please contact Diana Kirby at dkirby@tockenhamparishcouncil.gov.uk or call on 07765 644704. Applications by Saturday 21st October please.

Consultation on the pre-submission draft Wiltshire Local Plan

Wiltshire Council has published the draft Wiltshire Local Plan (Local Plan), along with accompanying evidence reports, for formal consultation. The Local Plan sets out the vision and framework for housing, infrastructure and land for employment growth for the next 15 years. Comments are invited on the Local Plan and supporting evidence base documents during the 8 week consultation period, which runs from9am on Wednesday 27 September until 5pm on Wednesday 22 November 2023.

In-person events are being held across the county to enable you to find out more information as part of the consultation. You can just turn up to the in-person events, there is no need to book. There will also be an online webinar event on Tuesday 10 October, and you must register beforehand to attend the online event. To see the full list of in-person events or to register for the online webinar event, seewww.wiltshire.gov.uk/local-plan. Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust
31 August 2023

Since 1998, the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust (WBVT) has worked in partnership with Wiltshire Police to provide a home security service for elderly and vulnerable people throughout Wiltshire. The charity funds the operation of three Bobby Vans that provide mobile workshops for Bobby Operators.

Operators are skilled carpenter/lock fitters. The operators are also trained in crime reduction and Fire Risk Assessment and provide reassurance to clients.

Bobby Vans are directed to their tasks by coordinators working from an operations room, who receive referrals, decide on work priorities and dispatch the vans using sophisticated communications equipment. On arrival the operators conduct a security audit with the permission of the client, fit the necessary security equipment to ensure the home is safe; in addition, they carry out a Fire Risk Assessment and fit smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when this is appropriate. Finally, all aspects of home, personal and fire safety are discussed, and practical measures provided. The service and equipment are provided free of charge. This vital work is funded by the WBVT.

The mission of the WBVT is to help elderly or vulnerable people who have been victims of, or are at risk of, house crime, hate crime, domestic abuse, or fire.

On 2nd May 2017, WBVT, working in partnership with Wiltshire Police, launched a bespoke Online Safety Initiative – Stay Safe Online. The Free service is available to people who are over 60 or 18+ with a registered disability. Trained Stay Safe Online Volunteers provide improved digital security awareness, scam prevention advice, support and reassurance; basic practical skills for checking and understanding digital privacy settings; and signpost people to future sources of advice and resources. The service offers one-to-one home visits and community group talks and is managed by a dedicated Stay Safe Online Coordinator

Announcement from Wiltshire Council: Asylum Seekers
20 January 2023

The Wiltshire Hotel.

We have a number of single adult males staying at the Home Office contingency spot booking hotel, The Wiltshire Hotel, in Royal Wootton Bassett. This has been arranged by the Home Office, and Wiltshire Council is not required to provide support. This is a hotel to accommodate asylum seekers for a short period of time from a few days up to a maximum of 90 days. The asylum seekers are from a number of countries. A spot booking hotel is when placements are expected to be short term before individuals are moved to dispersal accommodation anywhere in the country. The Government has determined that every local authority area must take a proportion of asylum seekers. ClearSprings Ready Homes is the contracted provider for the Home Office who procure the dispersal accommodation.

“We are working with our partners to meet any statutory requirements associated with this and are also liaising with the Home Office. The hotel is providing accommodation with security and welfare staff on hand provided by ClearSprings. The Prime Minister has committed to fully exploring alternative sites to hotels for asylum seekers and we will keep you updated, as circumstances change and develop.”

For those wanting to donate we will be looking to the community to help out with specific items and will update in due course.

We have a number of FAQs about the hotel on our website here - Asylum seekers contingency accommodation - Wiltshire Council
